Marc returned strong in 2012. He earned six pole positions and won four races early in the season. He continued his dominance with three more wins. Marc clinched the Moto2 World Championship with a second-place finish in Australia. He was known for his aggressive riding style. In his final Moto2 race, he started from the back of the grid. MotoGP Debut and First Titles (2013-2014)
In 2013, Marc Márquez joined the top MotoGP class with the Repsol Honda team. He made an immediate impact, finishing third in his very first MotoGP race. In his second race, he took pole position and won, becoming the youngest ever premier-class race winner. Marc continued to impress, winning six races in his rookie season. He secured the championship in Valencia, becoming the youngest champion in MotoGP history.
The 2014 season was even more dominant. Marc won the first ten races in a row, a truly incredible feat. He secured his second MotoGP championship with three races still to go. He set a new record with 13 wins in a single season. Marc's performance helped Honda win the manufacturers' championship.
Challenges and Comebacks (2015-2019)
The 2015 season brought new challenges for Marc. A series of crashes meant he was out of the championship fight early. He also had a strong rivalry with fellow racer Valentino Rossi. Despite the difficulties, he still managed to win five races that year.
In 2016, Marc reclaimed his title. He won five races and secured his third MotoGP championship in Japan. He continued his winning ways in 2017, battling closely with Andrea Dovizioso. Marc won six races and clinched his fourth MotoGP title in the final round in Valencia.
Marc's consistency shone through in 2018. He won nine races and secured his fifth MotoGP title. He became the first rider since Valentino Rossi to win three consecutive premier-class titles. The 2019 season was another display of dominance. Marc won 12 races and finished on the podium in all but one race. He secured his sixth MotoGP title with four rounds remaining. He ended the season with a massive 151-point lead over the second-place rider.
Battling Injuries (2020-2023)
The 2020 season was a difficult one for Marc. He suffered a severe crash in the opening race, breaking his right arm. He underwent multiple surgeries and missed the entire season. In 2022, Marc had a fourth surgery on his arm. He continued to struggle with his Honda bike. He also experienced another episode of double vision. Despite missing many races, he was still the top Honda rider. The 2023 season saw more injuries and crashes. Marc broke his thumb and withdrew from several races. He eventually decided to leave Honda after many successful years.
A New Chapter with Ducati (2024)
In 2024, Marc Márquez joined the Gresini Racing team, riding a Ducati bike. This was a big change after many years with Honda. He quickly adapted to his new bike. Marc achieved his first pole position with Ducati in Jerez. He also secured his first race win with Ducati in Aragon, ending a 1043-day victory drought. He claimed two more wins in Misano and Phillip Island. Marc finished the 2024 championship in an impressive third place.
The Grand Comeback: 2025 Champion
For the 2025 season, Marc Márquez moved to the factory Ducati Lenovo Team. He immediately showed his incredible form. He won the first two rounds in Thailand and Argentina, taking pole, sprint wins, and main race victories. Marc continued his dominant performance, winning 11 races and 14 sprint races throughout the season.
He clinched his seventh MotoGP title and ninth world title overall with five rounds remaining in Motegi, Japan. This marked his first title in six years, the longest drought in history for a champion. At 32 years old, he became the oldest rider to win the premier-class title in the four-stroke era. Marc and his younger brother, Álex Márquez, made history by becoming the first pair of brothers to finish first and second in the premier-class championship standings. Marc's season was celebrated as one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. Towards the end of the season, he suffered a shoulder injury and missed the final four rounds. Despite this, he set a new record for total points in the sprint era with 545 points.
Marc's Unique Riding Style
Marc Márquez brought a new way of riding to MotoGP. He made the "elbow dragging" technique famous. This means he leans so far into corners that his elbow touches the ground. This technique gives riders more control and helps them save crashes. Many other riders started to copy his style. Experts say Marc redefined how Grand Prix motorcycles are ridden.
Marc also has a special talent for anti-clockwise circuits. His favorite track, the Sachsenring, is anti-clockwise, and he has won there 12 times. Other riders have noticed his unique ability on these tracks. The MotorLand Aragon circuit even named Turn 10 after him to honor his success.
Life Off the Track
Marc Márquez speaks Catalan, Spanish, English, and Italian. He always uses his racing number 93, which is the year he was born. He never uses the number 1, even after winning championships.
Since 2012, Marc's symbol has been the Ant. You can see it on his helmets and gear. He was nicknamed an "ant" because he was small when he started racing. Like an ant, he showed great strength and could handle bikes much bigger than himself.
Marc's father, Julià, often travels with him to races. His younger brother, Álex Márquez, is also a world champion motorcycle racer. They made history as the first brothers to win world championships in the same season, doing so in 2014 and again in 2019. They also became the first brothers to finish 1-2 in the premier-class championship in 2025.
Marc lives in his hometown of Cervera, Spain. His official fan club is there, run by his uncle Ramón. There's even an exhibition in the town museum with his championship-winning bikes. Marc supports several charities. He is a fan of the football club FC Barcelona. In 2023, he launched "WeAre93," a community for his fans. Marc was also the subject of a 2023 docuseries called Marc Márquez: ALL IN, which showed his journey back from injury. He is in a relationship with Gemma Pinto.
